Once widely projected as a first-round pick, Sanders’ landing spot became less clear as the draft approached.

The Athletic asked 10 coaches and executives Thursday if they were surprised Sanders was still on the board late in Round 1. All 10 said no.

The move represented a major splash for first-year general manager James Gladstone and head coach Liam Coen.

Nobody wants to wind up like Will Levis, sliding out of Round 1 while the world watches, but there are many other factors to consider.
